Marble Cake

Today's cake is a Marble Cake. Again, a fairly simple cake...just butter, eggs, flour, vanilla, rum essence. After about half the batter is in the baking tin, you mix cocoa powder in the remaining batter. Then you add the cocoa batter to the yellow batter and twirl it with a fork to create a marble effect.

I told my mom about the project and she suggested that I have my husband rate what he likes best. So I set up a spreadsheet with dates, cake types and a rating section.

Sand Cake

For whatever strange reason, I decided to bake a Sand Cake.
It is a somewhat basic yellow cake with a hint of lemon and vanilla.

My mom really didn't bake it very often, in fact, I can only remember one occasion in particular...Me as a little kid waiting in the car and munching on sand cake while I was waiting for my mom... Gasp! All by myself.

Let The Baking Begin...

Well, I am not much of a cook.
But I like baking; baking cake, that is.

Several years ago, my mom gave me this baking book "German Baking" with traditional German cakes. The recipes are somewhat Americanized because a number of the ingredients are not available in the US so the authors subsituted for it.

Anyway, I will try to bake one cake per week until I am done with the book.
And fatten up my husband and his coworkers at the same time..
